Preparatory training programmes and Swedish language-training for immigrants and refugees

Education for immigrant and refugee children/young people

The Umeå municipality offers education and support for children and school pupils from countries with a mother tongue other than Swedish.

Nursery school and pre-school classes

The Tellus preparatory nursery school, which is part of the Hedlunda School, is for refugee children in the age range 2-6, and for children of six years of age for whom an application for refugee status has been made. Nursery and pre-school teachers prepare children and their parents for the Swedish nursery, pre-school and compulsory school systems.

Compulsory education

The Hedlunda School´s preparatory classes for pupils who have recently arrived from other countries are part of the basic mandatory school system. The pupils are refugees, children for whom an application for refugee status has been made, immigrant children, and the children of guest lecturers/researchers at Umeå University.
