The Central Library
The central library has the widest range of books in languages other than Swedish, including children´s books, novels, poetry, non-fiction, language courses and dictionaries in more than 60 different languages. Daily newspapers and magazines from many countries are also available. Books can be ordered if the library does not stock them. Library services in Umeå cooperate with other libraries, and books in more than 100 languages can be supplied. Staff at the information desks can help borrowers in most cases. But you can also help us, since you may well be an expert in literature, newspapers and periodicals of your native country. We welcome suggestions for future purchases. Anne Alenbro Lindström has special responsibility for literature in immigrant languages.

The Västerbotten Collection
This collection consists of books and other material about Västerbotten but it also includes important works about Norrland and the Laps. While the material in the Västerbotten Collection on the second floor is reference material, most of the titles are duplicated in the lending collection. A special database of the Västerbotten collection has been established.

Genealogical Research
All the archives from churches in Västerbotten are available in the Library. Inter-library loans are available within Sweden.

Talking Books Department
Talking books are available for loan to the visually impaired, mentally handicapped, aphasics, physically disabled, chronically ill, hard of hearing and dyslexic individuals. Books in Braille are borrowed from the Swedish Institute for Talking Books and Braille. The Talking Book Department also produces materials for individuals and groups.

Foreign Language Material
You can find books in 48 languages at the public libraries in Umeå. We also subscribe to more than 1000 magazines and newspapers in 40 different languages.
