Social Services
support for children and young people
In Sweden, everyone under the age of 18 is regarded as a child. The UN Convention states that the best interests of the child must be the primary factor in decisions which affect children. The adults responsible for such decisions must listen carefully to the child´s own wishes, and they must also be aware of the circumstances faced by the child concerned, in the home, at school and elsewhere.
Support for parents
Being a mother or a father is sometimes difficult and, as a result, parents are entitled to support and assistance from the Social Services Department.
Contact Social Services if a child is in need of assistance
The Social Services Department is responsible for providing support and protection for children and young people in difficult circumstances. As a result, the Department needs to know about children and young people who require such assistance. The Swedish Social Services Act stipulates that all adults should notify the Social Services if they consider that a child needs assistance. This may be done anonymously.
