Culture Centre for children and youth in Umeå

An activity owned and organised by Umeå municipal Cultural Administration

The Culture Centre, (Kulturcentrum för barn och unga i Umeå), develops and supports cultural activities for the younger generation in Umea. The work includes networks for support and cooperation, in-service training in relevant fields for teachers and others who come into contact with children and young people in the course of their work, cultural programs for pre-schools and other types of schools. The Culture Centre also give public performances for children and family audiences.

Cultural education projects are conducted in schools and in the form of training and guidance for teaching staff involved in creative activities for children and young people. The Teatermagasinet drama groups for children and young people in the age range 10-19 are a major part of the Culture Centre. Theatre groups for physically impaired children are of high priority as is the use of Theatre in Education. A drama festival takes place in May every year, involving all the drama groups.

The City of Umea is one of Swedens fastest growing cities. Umea has two universities, a population of 112 000, with an average age of 37. The city offers world-class art, drama, film, music and research. The city is in the bid for the title European Capital of Culture 2014 and is now busy with preparing for the final selection, which will take part in September 2009.
