Umeå University ranks as the best university in the world in several categories, according to the International Student Barometer (ISB).

Umeå University – Best in the World for Campus Life and Satisfied Students

The International Student Barometer (ISB) ranks Umeå University as number one globally in several of the survey’s categories. The survey is based on responses from over 120,000 students worldwide.

In the latest International Student Barometer (ISB), which includes votes from over 120,000 students worldwide, Umeå University is ranked as the number one university in the world among all participating institutions for housing and campus life (living), support services (support), and overall satisfaction.

Students Recommend Umeå

Umeå University not only stood out in the main categories but also claimed the top spot for overall happiness. Additionally, 86.2% of the international students said they would recommend Umeå University to friends and family, making the university the top choice among Swedish universities and fifth in Europe. When it comes to career goal preparation, the university ranked first in both Sweden and Europe.

A Comprehensive Survey

The survey was answered by international students from 137 universities worldwide during the fall of 2023. A total of ten Swedish universities participated in the survey, making it one of the largest of its kind and providing a good indication of student experiences on a global scale.

About the Survey

Umeå University achieved a high response rate of 62%, with a total of 425 international exchange and fee-paying students responding to the survey. This engagement highlights the willingness of the university’s international students to share their experiences and contributes to the university’s continuous improvement and development. A total of 121,418 students from all over the world participated in the survey.

The International Student Barometer 2023 Wave 2 was developed and administered by the International Graduate Insight Group (I-Graduate) – an independent benchmarking and research service – and was answered by exchange and other international students. In total, 121,418 students from 137 higher education institutions globally participated between October and December 2023.
